Policy-Based Data Protection is a unique feature designed to deliver better flexibility, simplify navigation, and save time, alleviating the burden of manual data protection management. So that once you add or move VMs to the Folder or Resource Pool, it will be automatically backed up without any manual intervention.
All new VMs added to a protected container are automatically included in the scope of the container’s existing backup jobs. You can also create VMware backup jobs for entire VMware containers, such as VM folders, resource pools, ESXi hosts, and VMware ESXi clusters. Using this feature, you can create your policy rules based on VM name, tag, size, location, power state, configuration, etc. This feature is time saver when you have expanding infrastructure such as regularly added VMs into your vSphere Infra. It is very cool and useful feature where you just create the Policy and then VM will be added to the Backup Jobs, so you don’t need to manually add the VMs to the Backup Jobs. So that means you don’t need to create Backup Policy for the newly created Virtual Machines.
